Paper is well known for itsrecycling potential, and is often seen as the recycling industry biggest success story. Paper lends itself to be broken down back to cellulose fibers, which can be used as building blocks for the production of recycled paper. These cellulose fibers can however not be recycled endlessly. During therecycling process, the fibers are shortened, until ultimately they become tooshort to apply in new paper products. Theoretically, the same fibers can berecycled up to 6 or 7 times before fiber properties have diminished to suchextend that they cannot be used for paper anymore. These short cellulose fibersend up in what is called paper sludge.
